For centuries, ships heading towards the Indian Ocean coast have been wrecked on Western Australia’s reefs and shores. The WA Shipwrecks Museum in Fremantle brings their stories together through objects recovered from some of the state’s most significant maritime disasters. The collection includes artefacts from Dutch ships such as the *Batavia*, *Zuytdorp* and *Vergulde Draeck*, alongside cannons, navigational instruments, ceramics and personal belongings recovered from the seabed. Housed in the former Commissariat building, the museum also explores maritime archaeology and the history of exploration, trade and shipwrecks along Western Australia’s coast.
