Ships carrying silver, soldiers and precious cargo once sailed along Western Australia’s coast, only to disappear beneath the waves. The Museum of Geraldton brings some of those stories back to the surface, combining maritime archaeology with the history and culture of the Mid West. The museum is home to remarkable finds from Dutch shipwrecks, including artefacts from the *Batavia*, *Zuytdorp* and *Zeewijk*. Galleries also explore Yamaji Country and culture, early European exploration, settlement and the region’s natural history. Together, the collections connect Geraldton to stories that stretch from ancient landscapes to some of Australia’s most notorious shipwrecks.
