The Wellington Museum in Waterloo occupies the former Bodenghien Inn, where the Duke of Wellington established his headquarters before the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. He stayed here on the nights of June 17 and 18 and wrote his famous victory report from the building after Napoleon’s defeat. The museum’s 14 rooms bring the Waterloo campaign to life through authentic weapons, uniforms, engravings and personal objects connected to the armies and commanders involved. Among the highlights are Wellington’s room, his campaign table and Lord Uxbridge’s prosthetic leg. Temporary exhibitions regularly explore different aspects of military history.
