Ferme d'Hougoumont is one of the best-preserved sites of the Battle of Waterloo and a key position in the fighting of 18 June 1815. The fortified farm was defended by Allied troops against repeated French attacks led by Prince Jérôme Bonaparte, Napoleon’s younger brother. Much of the complex was destroyed by fire during the battle, but important parts of the historic site survived. Today, visitors can explore the farm buildings, chapel, gardens and commemorative sites, alongside a museum with four exhibition rooms. An immersive sound-and-light show tells the story of the fierce fighting that took place here, bringing one of the battle’s most important locations to life.
