The Museum of Fine Arts in Dijon occupies the former palace of the Dukes of Burgundy, placing its collection within the historic centre of the city. Established in 1787, it is one of France’s oldest museums and continued to grow as Dijon’s ducal palace was transformed into a public institution. The medieval kitchens, Gothic halls and grand 18th-century apartments remain part of the museum. More than 130,000 works trace European art from antiquity to the present. Highlights include the elaborate tombs of the Dukes of Burgundy, works by Rogier van der Weyden, Titian and Rubens, and later paintings by Monet, Manet and Pissarro. The collection also includes sculpture, decorative arts and regional art.
