The Archaeological Museum in Dijon occupies the former Benedictine abbey of Saint-Bénigne, where traces of the city’s religious and archaeological past remain visible in the building itself. Founded in 1832, the museum brings together discoveries from Burgundy that span from prehistoric settlements to the medieval period. Among the highlights are prehistoric tools, Gallo-Roman objects, Merovingian jewellery, medieval sculptures and architectural fragments. The former abbey church and its Romanesque crypt are central to the visit, with archaeological remains presented alongside objects recovered from sites across Burgundy.
