Housed in the former Palace of the Dukes of Burgundy in Dijon, the Musée des Beaux-Arts brings together centuries of art within a historic setting shaped by the city’s ducal past. Officially established in 1799, it is one of France’s oldest museums, with collections spanning more than 2,000 years of art history. Highlights include the monumental tombs of Dukes Philip the Bold and John the Fearless, medieval sculptures from the Chartreuse de Champmol, and paintings ranging from early European masters to modern and contemporary artists. Following a major renovation completed in 2019, the museum’s galleries combine historic palace rooms with contemporary architectural additions.
