One building, four museums: the Pinakothek der Moderne brings together modern art, design, architecture and works on paper under one roof in Munich’s Kunstareal. Designed by Stephan Braunfels and opened in 2002, the building centres on a dramatic glass rotunda around which the four collections are arranged. The museum complex houses the Sammlung Moderne Kunst, the Staatliche Graphische Sammlung, the Architekturmuseum der TUM and Die Neue Sammlung – The Design Museum. Together they cover painting, sculpture, photography, prints, architectural models and design, with works ranging from early 20th-century modernism to contemporary art and design. A single ticket gives access to all four museums.
