Kansas CityMissouri/United States

The Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art in Kansas City is known for the unusual combination of a grand neoclassical museum, bold contemporary architecture and an extensive sculpture park. Opened in 1933, the original building was later joined by the Bloch Building, creating a striking contrast between the two. The museum’s grounds are as much part of the experience as its galleries. Its collection spans more than 5,000 years, with European and American paintings, Asian art, ancient objects, photography, decorative arts and contemporary works. Highlights include Caravaggio, Monet and Rembrandt, alongside an exceptional collection of Asian art. Outside, monumental sculptures are spread across the Donald J. Hall Sculpture Park.
