Munich Stadtmuseum traces the history and culture of Munich through a wide-ranging collection spanning more than 800 years. Founded in 1888, the museum occupies several historic buildings around the former Augustinian monastery in the city centre, bringing together art, everyday objects and stories from Munich’s past. Its collections cover subjects including urban history, photography, film, music, fashion and decorative arts. Highlights include the famous Moriskentänzer sculptures, historic weapons and armour, traditional costumes and objects documenting everyday life in Munich. The museum is currently undergoing extensive renovation, with parts of the collection presented at temporary locations during the closure.
