Royal travel was never a modest affair. In the former court stables of Nymphenburg Palace, the Marstallmuseum displays more than forty lavish coaches, ceremonial sleighs and pieces of riding equipment once belonging to the Wittelsbach rulers. The collection spans around 300 years of Bavarian courtly travel and includes the spectacular coronation coach of Emperor Charles VII and several ornate vehicles used by King Ludwig II. Historic harnesses, riding accessories and portraits reveal the ceremony and craftsmanship behind the royal journeys. The upper floor also houses the Museum of Nymphenburg Porcelain, with pieces spanning three centuries.
