Deutsches Bergbau-Museum Bochum

A towering headframe rising above the city gives Bochum one of its most recognisable landmarks. Beneath it, the Deutsches Bergbau-Museum explores the history of mining and the resources people have extracted from the earth for thousands of years. Founded in 1930, it is also a Leibniz Research Museum for Geo-resources. Four permanent exhibition routes cover hard coal, mining, mineral resources and art, while an underground visitor mine gives a sense of what working below ground was like. The 71.4-metre headframe, originally from the former Germania mine, offers a panoramic view over Bochum.
