TU Delft Hortus Botanicus

The TU Delft Hortus Botanicus is a unique, living treasure trove in Delft. Founded in 1917 by Professor Gerrit van Iterson, this garden was originally established to conduct research on crops with technical applications (such as fiber and rubber plants) for industry. Today, this historic, four-hectare botanical garden is a beautiful green oasis just a short walk from downtown. It’s not only a delightful place to stroll among thousands of unique plant species, but also remains an active research center. Here, you’ll discover how scientists use nature—from tree roots to the structure of leaves—as a source of inspiration for the sustainable technologies and materials of the future.
