The Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center in Chantilly, Virginia, is the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum’s companion facility to its location on the National Mall. Opened in 2003, its vast hangars display hundreds of aircraft and spacecraft that are too large to be exhibited in downtown Washington, D.C. Visitors can see iconic machines including the Space Shuttle Discovery, a Lockheed SR-71 Blackbird and the B-29 Superfortress Enola Gay. The collection covers aviation and spaceflight from early aircraft to modern military and experimental technology. A viewing gallery also overlooks Washington Dulles International Airport, offering a close-up view of aircraft in operation.
