National Gallery of Denmark is Denmark’s largest art museum, located in central Copenhagen. Its collection spans more than 700 years of art, bringing together Danish and international works from the early Renaissance to contemporary art. Visitors can encounter paintings, sculptures, drawings and prints by artists including Lucas Cranach the Elder, Rembrandt, Matisse and Vilhelm Hammershøi. The historic building is connected to a modern extension, creating a contrast between the museum’s 19th-century architecture and its contemporary exhibition spaces. The museum also has a dedicated collection of Danish and Nordic art.
