HillerødRegion Hovedstaden/Denmark

Frederiksborg Castle is a Renaissance castle in Hillerød, Denmark, built by King Christian IV in the early 17th century. Surrounded by a lake and formal gardens, the castle is one of Denmark’s most striking historic buildings and houses the Museum of National History. The museum traces more than 500 years of Danish history through portraits, paintings, furniture and decorative arts. Visitors can explore richly decorated rooms including the Great Hall and the castle chapel, which survived the devastating fire of 1859. The surrounding gardens and castle lake add another dimension to a visit, with views across the historic grounds.
