San FranciscoCalifornia/United States

Seven floors of modern and contemporary art rise above downtown San Francisco at SFMOMA, where the collection ranges from paintings and sculpture to photography, design and media art. The museum’s current building opened in 1995 and expanded dramatically in 2016 with a new wing designed by Snøhetta. More than 33,000 works span the late 19th century to today, including pieces by Frida Kahlo, Henri Matisse, Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and Yayoi Kusama. Large-scale installations, photography and design sit alongside the painting and sculpture, while changing exhibitions bring new artists and ideas into the galleries.
