Leonardo da Vinci’s *Portrait of a Musician* is one of the treasures hidden inside Milan’s Biblioteca Ambrosiana, where a library, art collection and historic rooms come together under one roof. Founded in 1618 by Cardinal Federico Borromeo, the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana was one of Europe’s earliest institutions designed to make art and culture available for study. The collection ranges from Renaissance masterpieces to Flemish painting, with works by Caravaggio, Raphael, Botticelli and Titian. Leonardo’s *Codex Atlanticus*, the world’s largest bound collection of his drawings and writings, is also preserved here, making the Ambrosiana a place where paintings and the intellectual world behind them meet.
