The Palace of Versailles is one of France’s most famous royal residences and a landmark of European Baroque architecture. Originally a hunting lodge for Louis XIII, it was transformed into a vast palace by Louis XIV and became the principal residence of the French monarchy in the late 17th century. The palace is renowned for its lavish State Apartments, the Hall of Mirrors and extensive formal gardens designed by André Le Nôtre. Visitors can also explore the Grand Trianon, the Petit Trianon and the surrounding estate, which together illustrate the grandeur and history of the French royal court.
