Grand Palais

A vast glass roof stretches over one of Paris’s most recognisable exhibition spaces. Built for the 1900 Exposition Universelle, the Grand Palais was designed to showcase art, industry and innovation on an enormous scale, with its steel-and-glass architecture becoming an attraction in its own right. Today, the building hosts major exhibitions, art fairs, fashion shows and cultural events rather than maintaining a permanent collection of its own. Its programme changes throughout the year, bringing everything from historic artworks and photography to contemporary installations into the monumental nave and surrounding galleries.
