A former Paris slaughterhouse became one of Europe’s largest science museums. The Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie opened in 1986 inside the huge steel-and-glass building at La Villette, turning an industrial site into a place for exploring science, technology and the future. Its galleries cover subjects ranging from the human body and the universe to mathematics, transport, energy and artificial intelligence. Many exhibits are designed to be tested rather than simply observed, while the planetarium takes visitors beyond Earth through immersive astronomy shows. The museum also includes a dedicated area for children, where science is explored through play and experimentation.
