A museum dedicated to art that has not yet settled into history, the New Museum champions artists who challenge conventions and explore what comes next. Founded in 1977 by curator Marcia Tucker, it began as an institution for contemporary art that was often overlooked by established museums. On Manhattan’s Bowery, its expanded home pairs the original stacked-cube building by SANAA with a new seven-storey addition designed by OMA. Reopened in 2026, the enlarged museum offers more space for ambitious exhibitions, new commissions and experimental projects. Its programme crosses art, technology and social change, bringing together international voices to question how we live now and what the future might hold.
