Neue Galerie New York occupies the former William Starr Miller House on Fifth Avenue, a Beaux-Arts mansion designed by Carrère and Hastings in 1914. Founded in 2001, the museum focuses on German and Austrian art from the early 20th century, with the historic interiors forming an important part of the setting. The collection includes paintings, sculpture and decorative arts by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Egon Schiele, Wassily Kandinsky and Paul Klee. Klimt’s *Portrait of Adele Bloch-Bauer I* is its best-known work, while the museum’s Austrian decorative arts collection features furniture and objects associated with the Wiener Werkstätte.
