Dinosaurs, diamonds and 4.5 billion years of Earth’s history share the same roof at the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County. Founded in 1913, it is the largest natural and cultural history museum in the western United States, with collections spanning palaeontology, zoology, geology, anthropology and more. Its galleries range from towering dinosaur skeletons and Ice Age fossils to gemstones, minerals and dioramas filled with animals. The museum also explores the natural and cultural history of Southern California, while the La Brea Tar Pits and other nearby institutions connect its collections to the wider story of Los Angeles and its prehistoric past.
