Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel

Den HaagZuid-Holland/Netherlands

Nationaal Monument Oranjehotel

The Oranjehotel National Monument is a memorial to the notorious German Polizeigefängnis during World War II. Between 1940 and 1945, the German occupiers held more than 25,000 people here for interrogation and trial. Among them were well-known resistance heroes such as the “Soldier of Orange” Erik Hazelhoff Roelfzema, George Maduro, and the Geuzen, as well as countless civilians who stood up against injustice. In the impressive permanent exhibition, you can hear and experience what life was like behind bars, how the prisoners tried to survive, and how great their fear was of what was to come.
