At Museum Ordrupgaard, French Impressionist paintings share the spotlight with Danish art, modernist furniture and striking contemporary architecture. Just north of Copenhagen, the museum began as the private collection of Henny and Wilhelm Hansen, who built up an exceptional group of French paintings in the early 20th century. Works by Monet, Degas, Renoir, Gauguin and Matisse form the heart of the French collection, while Danish galleries feature artists such as Vilhelm Hammershøi. The grounds add another dimension, with an art park and buildings designed by Zaha Hadid and Snøhetta. The museum also includes designer Finn Juhl’s preserved 1942 home, where his sculptural furniture, artwork and architecture come together.
