Sex has shaped art, politics, technology and popular culture for centuries, but rarely gets treated as a subject worthy of a museum. Museum of Sex Miami puts it centre stage, using exhibitions to examine how sexuality has influenced the way people live, think and express themselves. Artworks, historical objects, photographs and immersive installations explore subjects ranging from desire and relationships to sexual identity and changing social attitudes. The museum is deliberately provocative at times, but its exhibitions also reveal something more familiar: how much ideas about sex change from one generation to the next.
