Under the golden dome of Les Invalides lies a collection shaped by centuries of war, power and military life. The Musée de l’Armée traces France’s military history from the Middle Ages to the modern era through weapons, armour, uniforms, paintings and personal objects. Swords and medieval armour lead into the artillery, uniforms and battlefield equipment of later centuries, while galleries dedicated to the two World Wars reveal the human and technological changes of modern warfare. The museum also houses Napoleon Bonaparte’s tomb beneath the famous dome, adding a monumental final chapter to its story of French military history.
