A forest, a dinosaur skeleton and the story of Melbourne all share the same building at Melbourne Museum. Set beside Carlton Gardens, the museum explores Victoria’s natural environment, science, culture and history through an enormous range of objects and specimens. Highlights include the remains of the famous racing horse Phar Lap, dinosaur fossils, living insects and the Bunjilaka Aboriginal Cultural Centre, which presents the stories and cultures of First Peoples in Victoria. The museum also explores Melbourne’s own past, while the Forest Gallery brings a living slice of Victoria’s ecosystems indoors.
