Maison Natale De Charles De Gaulle

A modest family home in Lille was the birthplace of Charles de Gaulle, one of the most important figures in 20th-century French history. Born here in 1890, de Gaulle spent his early childhood in the house, which remained connected to his family for generations. Today, the restored home presents rooms furnished in the style of a bourgeois family house at the end of the 19th century. Family photographs, personal belongings and period objects provide a glimpse into de Gaulle’s childhood and family background, while the exhibition space explores the later life and career of the future French president and wartime leader.
