Huis Van Gijn

The Van Gijn House was the home of Simon van Gijn (1836–1922), a banker and collector from Dordrecht. Upon his death, he bequeathed his house and vast collection to the city, with the express wish that the building be preserved as a museum. What makes this museum special is that it feels as though the residents could return at any moment: the table is set, the beds are made, and the pots and pans are ready in the kitchen. Here, you get a unique glimpse into the daily lives of both the wealthy family and the servants living under the stairs.
