Behind the thick concrete walls of a former Second World War air-raid bunker, Berlin’s history unfolds across thousands of square metres. The Berlin Story Bunker near Anhalter Bahnhof uses the unusual setting to explore the city’s past and some of the darkest chapters of German history. The exhibitions cover the rise and fall of Nazi Germany, the Holocaust, the destruction of Berlin and the country’s development from 1945 to the present. Original photographs, documents, films, objects and large-scale models are combined with an audio guide, while the bunker itself remains a powerful reminder of the history being explored.
