The Art Gallery of New South Wales is one of Australia’s leading art museums, overlooking Sydney Harbour from Gadigal Country in The Domain. Founded in 1871, the gallery has grown into a major centre for Australian, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander, Asian, European and contemporary art. Its historic galleries include works by artists such as Rubens, Van Gogh, Monet and Cézanne, alongside major Australian artists. A second building, Sydney Modern, opened in 2022, expanding the gallery’s contemporary art spaces and creating a new setting for exhibitions and collections.
