OuwerkerkZeeland/Netherlands

The Watersnoodmuseum is housed in the four enormous caissons that were used to seal the last breach in the dike near Ouwerkerk after the 1953 flood disaster. The museum is a national center of knowledge and remembrance where the history of the disaster comes to life. Through personal stories, photographs, film footage, and authentic artifacts, you’ll learn all about the battle against the water, the reconstruction efforts, and the current challenges posed by rising sea levels.
