With its pointed arches, richly decorated interiors and private chapel, Tyntesfield looks more like a Gothic cathedral than a Victorian country house. Located near Bristol in Somerset, the estate was transformed by businessman William Gibbs and his family during the 19th century, using wealth earned partly through the trade in Peruvian guano, a valuable fertiliser. Today, the National Trust preserves the house and its remarkable collection of art, furniture and everyday objects. Beyond the interiors, visitors can explore formal terraces, a rose garden, a historic orangery, a working kitchen garden and extensive woodland. The estate offers a glimpse into Victorian family life, architecture and the landscape that surrounded it.
