What if a museum could hear you speak and respond to your words? Planet Word in Washington, D.C., turns language into an interactive experience inside the historic Franklin School, a former public school that opened in 1869. The museum opened in 2020 with a mission to celebrate the power, beauty and fun of words. Across three floors, visitors can explore how children learn to speak, discover the origins of English words and encounter languages from around the world. Interactive exhibits invite guests to deliver famous speeches, sing karaoke, play with words to transform a room and uncover hidden literary surprises in a magical library. At Planet Word, language is something to experiment with, not just read about.
