Housed in a former church on Colchester’s High Street, the Natural History Museum explores the wildlife and changing landscapes of north-east Essex. Its displays connect the area’s present-day habitats with a much older past, when mammoths and hippos roamed the region and the landscape was shaped by dramatic changes in climate. Interactive exhibits invite visitors to investigate local biodiversity, discover animal skeletons and peek inside a badger’s sett. The museum also explores conservation and climate change, linking the natural history of the region to the environmental challenges facing it today.
