The National Postal Museum in Washington, D.C., explores the history of the United States Postal Service and the role of mail in American life. Opened in 1993, the museum occupies the historic City Post Office building next to Union Station, built in 1914. Its collection includes more than 40 million stamps and postal artefacts, from historic mail vehicles and sorting equipment to rare letters and envelopes.
