The National Museum of the American Indian in Washington, D.C., explores the histories, cultures and contemporary lives of Native peoples across the Americas. Part of the Smithsonian Institution, the museum is housed in a distinctive curving building designed by Douglas Cardinal and inspired by natural rock formations and the movement of water. Its collection contains more than 825,000 objects representing Indigenous cultures from North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. Exhibitions feature clothing, pottery, weapons, jewellery, photographs and ceremonial objects, while contemporary displays highlight Native voices, traditions and ongoing cultural practices.
