Australia’s history is told through the objects, stories and people that have shaped the country at the National Museum of Australia in Canberra. Rather than following a simple timeline, the museum explores themes such as First Nations cultures, migration, the environment, democracy and everyday Australian life. Its collection includes more than 210,000 objects, from Aboriginal artefacts and historic vehicles to personal belongings and objects connected to famous Australians. Highlights include the Holden prototype No. 1, Phar Lap’s heart and the 17,000-year-old Mungo Lady, while changing exhibitions bring different parts of Australia’s past and present into focus.
