A 21-metre fin whale skeleton hangs above the entrance to the Museum of Zoology in Cambridge, welcoming visitors into a world of animal life. Part of the University of Cambridge, the museum holds more than two million modern and fossil specimens collected over more than 200 years. The galleries bring together skeletons, fossils, birds, insects and molluscs to tell stories of evolution, extinction and survival. Highlights include one of the UK's most complete dodo skeletons, a giant ground sloth and specimens linked to naturalists Charles Darwin and Alfred Russel Wallace. From familiar species to animals that have disappeared from Earth, the collection offers a closer look at the diversity and history of life.
