In 1545, Henry VIII’s warship Mary Rose sank in the Solent, taking hundreds of sailors and their belongings to the seabed. Raised in 1982 after more than four centuries underwater, the ship now forms the centrepiece of the Mary Rose Museum in Portsmouth. Displayed alongside thousands of objects recovered from the wreck, the ship offers a rare glimpse into everyday life aboard a Tudor warship. Wooden combs, shoes, tools, weapons and personal possessions reveal the people behind the history, while modern displays explain the ship’s sinking, recovery and remarkable preservation.
