Martinikerk

GroningenGroningen/Netherlands

Martinikerk

The Martinikerk is one of Groningen’s most important historic landmarks, standing beside the Martinitoren in the heart of the city. The church has its origins in the 13th century, while much of the present building dates from later medieval expansions. Its Romanesque and Gothic architecture reflects the growing importance of Groningen during the Middle Ages. Inside, the church is known for its historic organ, medieval wall paintings and imposing vaulted interior. The Martinikerk has served Groningen’s religious community for centuries and is now also used for concerts, exhibitions and other cultural events, making it an important part of the city’s architectural and cultural heritage.
