At IWM North, the building itself reflects the subject inside. Architect Daniel Libeskind designed its jagged, intersecting forms to represent a world shattered by conflict. Opened in 2002 in Trafford Park, the museum explores how wars have shaped people’s lives, communities and societies from the First World War to the present day. Military objects, personal belongings, photographs and artworks reveal the human experience behind historical events. The immersive Big Picture Show surrounds visitors with large-scale projections and sound, offering different perspectives on conflict and its lasting consequences.
