Two enormous naval guns stand outside IWM London, a reminder of the real conflicts behind the stories told inside. The museum explores the human impact of war, from the First World War to conflicts today, through the experiences of soldiers, civilians and those caught in between. Uniforms, military vehicles, personal letters, photographs and artworks reveal how conflict shapes everyday lives. The First World War Galleries include an immersive trench experience, while dedicated galleries examine the Second World War and the Holocaust. Housed in a former hospital on Lambeth Road, the museum opened at this site in 1936.
