FOMU in Antwerp is dedicated to photography in all its forms, from its early history to contemporary image-making. The museum opened in 1986 and occupies a renovated warehouse in the city’s Zuid district, expanded with a modern wing designed by architect Georges Baines. Its programme places photography within wider artistic, social and cultural contexts. The collection is one of Europe’s significant photography collections, bringing together more than two million photographs, cameras, equipment, books and documents. Changing exhibitions feature Belgian and international photographers, while displays from the collection explore different periods, themes and developments in the medium.
