Founded through the bequest of Viscount Fitzwilliam in 1816, the Fitzwilliam Museum in Cambridge brings together more than half a million objects spanning over 5,000 years of history. Its collections range from ancient Egyptian coffins and Greek sculpture to illuminated manuscripts, Asian art, rare coins and European paintings. Highlights include works by Monet, Titian and Rembrandt, alongside intricate decorative arts and archaeological treasures. Housed in a grand Neoclassical building on Trumpington Street, the museum combines the atmosphere of a historic institution with changing exhibitions and displays that connect art, history and cultures from around the world.
