Behind the gates of Christchurch Park stands a Tudor mansion with more than 500 years of history. Christchurch Mansion in Ipswich takes visitors through centuries of domestic life, from its Tudor kitchen to its Georgian saloon and Victorian rooms, with historic furnishings and objects that show how the house changed over time. Art is another major part of the experience. The mansion holds an important collection of works by Suffolk-born artists Thomas Gainsborough and John Constable, alongside decorative arts, toys and local history displays. The building began taking shape in 1547 and is now one of Ipswich’s best-known historic landmarks.
