Charles Dickens Museum

Step into the London home where Charles Dickens lived, worked and wrote some of his best-known novels. The Charles Dickens Museum occupies 48 Doughty Street, the Georgian townhouse where Dickens lived with his family from 1837 to 1839 and wrote works including *Oliver Twist* and *Nicholas Nickleby*. The house was opened as a museum in 1925 and remains the only surviving London home of Dickens. Its collection contains more than 100,000 objects, including furniture, personal belongings, paintings, photographs, letters, manuscripts and rare editions. Restored rooms recreate the atmosphere of the Dickens family home, while changing exhibitions explore different parts of the author's life and work.
