More than 1,400 ventriloquist figures fill the Vent Haven Museum in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky, making it a unique stop for anyone fascinated by the art of making a dummy appear to speak. It is the world’s only museum dedicated entirely to ventriloquism. The collection began in 1910, when Cincinnati businessman William Shakespeare Berger bought his first figure, Tommy Baloney. After decades of collecting dummies, photographs, scripts, posters, recordings and other memorabilia, Berger’s collection opened to the public in 1973. Today, the museum preserves the history of ventriloquism through figures from different eras and the performers who brought them to life.
